Egypt has strategic wheat reserves sufficient to 6 months – minister

Egypt’s strategic reserves of wheat, sugar, corn, oil and rice are sufficient for four to six months, said the Minister of Supply and Internal Trade Ali Moselhy during a meeting with the President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi on Sunday.

From his side, al-Sisi pointed out that a supply price for wheat should be determined to generate a rewarding economic return for farmers and peasants as well as support an increase in wheat supply.

Moselhy further noted that the country also has strategic reserves of fresh meat and poultry for around a year, according to the statement.

Late in August, Egypt approved raising the guide price of local wheat procurement for the new harvest season by 13.6 percent to 1,000 Egyptian pounds per ardeb.
