Egypt’s Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat met President of Huawei Digital Power and Renewable Energy Charles Yang to explore ways of enhancing cooperation on digital transformation and renewable energy projects, according to a Cabinet statement.
The talks focused on expanding the use of energy storage technologies to maximise returns from solar power and ensure continuous supply to off-grid industrial zones and residential communities.
Discussions also covered Huawei’s digital transformation solutions aimed at reducing electricity losses, curbing theft, and boosting efficiency through smart grid technologies.
The company will study the deployment of its technologies in a selected governorate as a pilot project to upgrade traditional distribution networks and transition to a smart grid system, the ministry said.
Esmat reaffirmed Egypt’s strategic partnership with the Chinese company and its role in various energy initiatives, citing investment opportunities in renewable energy and storage, both on-grid and off-grid, under the country’s updated national energy strategy and Vision 2040.
The minister noted the sector’s commitment to reducing fuel reliance, cutting emissions, and tackling electricity theft as Egypt moves towards more efficient, renewable-based smart grids.
He underscored the importance of deploying advanced communication technologies and cybersecurity tools to support digital transformation and improve service quality.
