Egypt, Libya advance energy ties

Egypt and Libya are seeking to accelerate joint energy projects, including gas pipeline connections, oil refining, and electricity interconnection, Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Atty said on Saturday. Abdel-Atty met with Libya’s Acting Oil and Gas Minister Khalifa Abdul-Sadiq to discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation in the energy sector.

The Egyptian foreign minister stressed the need to accelerate projects to construct and connect gas pipelines between the two countries and to expand cooperation in petroleum products.

He also called for expediting projects to refine Libyan crude oil in Egypt and re-export it abroad, rehabilitate Libyan refineries, and complete electricity interconnection projects between the two countries.

For his part, Abdul-Sadiq expressed appreciation for bilateral technical cooperation in the oil, gas, and electricity sectors, reaffirming his commitment to continuing ongoing joint projects.

He also said he would visit Cairo in the near future to continue discussions on technical cooperation with Egypt’s ministers of petroleum and electricity.
