Egypt Mining Forum 2026 concluded its fifth edition in Cairo after bringing together more than 6,000 participants from over 50 countries to discuss accelerating exploration, attracting investment and increasing mining’s contribution to around 6 per cent of GDP.
Held under the patronage of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and hosted by the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, the two-day forum brought together more than 500 conference delegates, 100 speakers and 100 exhibiting companies.
The forum focused on Egypt’s mining reforms, exploration opportunities, critical minerals, gold, regional supply chains and downstream value creation, with discussions on turning the country’s geological potential into discoveries and commercially viable mining projects.
Petroleum and Mineral Resources Minister Karim Badawi outlined Egypt’s efforts to attract exploration companies and support projects from discovery to development through reforms covering licensing, fiscal terms, fees, permitting and investor services.
The forum highlighted renewed exploration momentum, with the Open Blocks system attracting 119 companies and 403 offers across 118 mining blocks in its first three months.
Gold was also a key focus, with AngloGold Ashanti indicating plans to expand exploration in Egypt and discussions highlighting responsible production, refining and stronger local value chains.
The forum also examined Egypt’s position within the mineral-rich Arabian-Nubian Shield and the importance of critical minerals, resilient supply chains and downstream industries.
The launch of the African Minerals Regulatory Authorities Forum in Cairo further highlighted the importance of regional cooperation in developing competitive, investment-ready mining jurisdictions and increasing mineral value creation across Africa.
Egypt Mining Forum 2026 was hosted by the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, supported by the Mineral Resources and Mining Industries Authority and organised by dmg events.
