Egypt near to achieve self-sufficiency in rice – minister

Egypt will achieve self-sufficiency in rice production soon and has enough wheat reserves to cover 6.3 months of the market’s needs, as well as sugar reserves to cover 5.1 months, Egypt’s Minister of Supply Ali Moselhy stated on Wednesday.

Egypt encourages the farmers to expand wheat cultivation as it confirms the indicative price of an ardeb’s wheat at 1000 Egyptian pounds for the next season.

Moselhi added that there is a sufficient balance of all kinds of oil for 5.4 months, a balance of frozen poultry that suffices for 6.2 months, a balance of live meat that suffices for 13.4 months, and a balance of pasta that suffices for 5.4 months.
