Egypt negotiating $150 mln labour-intensive finance programe from World Bank

Egypt is negotiating a $150 million financing programme from the World Bank to help develop labour-intensive infrastructure and training projects across the country, Industry Minister Tarek Qabil announced Wednesday.

Qabil made these remarks following his meeting with the World Bank’s delegation headed by Gustavo Demarco, Program Leader at WB.

The programme will target training for employment and labour-intensive infrastructure projects that involve health, environment, and literacy sectors, the Egyptian minister added.

Those projects will include the renovation of schools, medial units, youth centres, and rural roads, alongside River Nile protection schemes and housing most needed families, he added.

The programme will provide training courses and job opportunities in various areas and sectors.

Egypt’s Social Development Fund (SFD) will be in charge of implementing the programme in cooperation with the country’s development partners, Qabil said.
