Egypt, NVIDIA discuss MoU on AI, skills, computing
Egypt and NVIDIA are exploring cooperation in artificial intelligence, computing, digital skills, and support for startups, with the two sides discussing a memorandum of understanding to define areas of collaboration, Egypt’s communications ministry said on Monday.
Egyptian Communications and Information Technology Minister Raafat Hindi met NVIDIA Executive Vice President for Europe, Middle East, and Africa Paolo Guglielmini to discuss potential cooperation in AI research and development, talent development, entrepreneurship, and specialised training, the ministry said.
The two sides also discussed NVIDIA training programmes in artificial intelligence and deep learning, including training-of-trainers programmes, as well as ways to expand Egypt’s computing and AI capabilities for developers, researchers, and institutions.
Hindi said Egypt was pursuing an integrated approach to AI aimed at generating economic and social benefits, including improving government services, preparing the workforce, and developing applications for the public interest.
He said Egypt was also working to develop local talent and equip workers with advanced AI skills.
Egypt launched its national AI strategy in 2019 as part of efforts to build an AI ecosystem, including the establishment of the National Council for Artificial Intelligence and the Applied Innovation Centre, Hindi said.
Egypt ranked first in Africa and third in the Arab world in the 2025 Government AI Readiness Index issued by Oxford Insights, he said.
Hindi also highlighted Egypt’s technology talent pool and its position as a gateway to African markets, saying the government was seeking to attract more global technology companies to invest and operate in the country.
Guglielmini said Egypt had the talent and ambition to become a significant force in AI innovation.
NVIDIA can accelerate such an ambition through its integrated ecosystem of accelerated computing, software and AI tools, alongside training programmes that enable developers to turn ideas into practical applications, he said.
Guglielmini added that NVIDIA sees a major opportunity to support Egypt’s AI ecosystem in developing solutions that address local needs and reach global markets.
The two sides also reviewed Egypt’s second National AI Strategy for 2025–2030, including its main targets and progress in implementation, and discussed opportunities to support the strategy through skills development, innovation, and broader adoption of AI applications.
The meeting also covered Egypt’s efforts to support startups and innovation through its Digital Innovation Hubs, which provide training and support for entrepreneurs and technology companies, the ministry said.
The meeting was attended by Marc Domenech, Vice President Enterprise META, CIS, and South Europe at NVIDIA; Mazen Khalil, Senior Regional Business Lead FSI and Security and Defence at NVIDIA; Ahmed Elzaher, CEO of the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA); and other Egyptian and NVIDIA officials.
