Egypt Parliament’s Lower House To Consist Of 546 Seats

The Shura Council (the upper house of Egypt’s parliament, currently endowed with legislative powers) approved legislation on Wednesday evening stating that Egypt’s House of Representatives (lower house of parliament, formerly known as the People’s Assembly) will consist of 546 seats, according to Al-Ahram’s Arabic-language news website.

The Shura Council also divided Egypt’s electoral districts into 91 individual constituencies and 38 party-based constituencies.

The council rejected a proposal to create a separate constituency for expatriate Egyptians living abroad.

Council members agreed to postpone a final vote on a proposed electoral law and a law regulating political rights until Thursday’s session.
