Egypt partners with GE HealthCare to manufacture ultrasound devices locally
Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly met with a number of GE HealthCare leaderships to discuss the company’s anticipated project designed to manufacture ultrasound devices in Egypt.
The project aims to localise medical equipment production and position Egypt as a hub for exports to Africa.
Prime Minister Madbouly expressed the government’s support for GE Healthcare’s plans. He emphasised that Egypt is committed to providing all necessary incentives to ensure the project’s success, even hinting at granting a golden licence to fast-track the process.
“This initiative is part of our broader vision to localise medical device production and strengthen Egypt’s position in regional and global markets,” said Prime Minister Madbouly. He encouraged GE Healthcare to explore manufacturing additional medical devices in the future.
Health Minister Abdel Ghaffar highlighted the strategic importance of localizing medical equipment production, noting that the move would meet domestic market demands and open opportunities for export, particularly to African nations.
Mark Stoesz, president of enterprise solutions, for GE HealthCare’s International region, praised the Egyptian government for its unwavering support and commended the substantial strides it has made in advancing the healthcare sector in recent years. He reaffirmed the company’s dedication to localising the production of ultrasound devices in Egypt.
Stoesz also highlighted GE HealthCare team’s visit aims to conduct in-depth discussions on the project. He further stated that the company is keen to explore additional production opportunities to meet the evolving needs of both the Egyptian and African markets.
GE Healthcare officials outlined plans to localise ultrasound manufacturing and leverage Egypt’s membership in African economic blocs and trade agreements to facilitate exports across the continent.
