Egypt plans new investment fund to support expansion in Africa

Egypt plans to launch an Africa-focused investment fund to support private sector expansion across the continent by financing priority sectors and helping Egyptian companies grow into regional businesses, Investment and Foreign Trade Minister Mohamed Farid said on Tuesday.

Farid outlined the proposal during a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly to review the ministry’s work programme, according to a government statement.

The proposed fund is intended to channel Egyptian investment into African markets, reflecting growing business opportunities across the continent and the need for better coordination of investment efforts.

The fund would support the regional expansion of Egyptian companies, help bridge financing gaps for selected projects, and invest in priority sectors rather than individual investment opportunities, Farid noted.

It would also seek to attract capital from domestic and international investors to expand its financing capacity while promoting economic and trade integration with African countries and strengthening Egypt’s commercial presence across the continent.

The proposal forms part of Egypt’s broader strategy to deepen economic ties with African partners, expand trade, and encourage private sector-led investment beyond the domestic market.
