Egypt plans to localise railway industry with Hungary’s Ganz-MAVAG

The Egyptian Minister of Transport, Kamel El-Wazir is seeking plans to localise the railway industry in cooperation with Hungary’s Ganz-MaVAG, according to the ministry’s statement on Friday.

Under the terms of the contracts, the minister stressed on the importance of adhering to technical standards as well as discussing ways of joint manufacturing between the National Egyptian Railway Industry Company (NERIC) and Ganz-MAVAG.

The deal comes within the framework of the agreement concluded between the Ministry of Transport represented by the Railways Authority and Ganz-MÁVAG, the statement mentioned.

It is worth mentioning that this agreement will pave the way for Egypt to turn into a hub for railcar manufacturing in the Middle East and Africa, the statement highlighted.

The plans come during El -Wazir’s visit visit to Hungary, when he met the head of the Hungarian company to follow up on the signed contract for supplying 1,350 railcars to the Egyptian National Railways (ENR) from Hungary.
