Egypt, Poland to resume economic cooperation after 27-year hiatus

Egypt and Poland have agreed on fast tracking the signing of a bilateral economic cooperation deal in light of Egypt’s to deepen economic relations, whether through bilateral cooperation or through the Visegrad group, Egyptian Minister of International Cooperation said.

Rania El-Mashat made her comments during a videoconference held on Monday with the Ambassador of the Republic of Poland Michał Łabenda, Ahram Online reported on Monday.

The Visegrad group is a cultural and political alliance of four Central European countries including the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia, that are members of the European Union (EU) and NATO for the purposes of advancing military, cultural, economic and energy cooperation with one another along with furthering their integration in the EU.

The Ministry of International Cooperation has managed to revive the Polish-Egyptian joint committee after a 27-year interruption. The committee is an instrument to enhance the bilateral economic ties between the two countries, according to a statement.

For his part, Ambassador Łabenda said that Poland is eager to boost economic cooperation with Egypt, with a special focus on agriculture, petrol, natural gas, transport, electricity, and power.

He added that Egypt is one of the important destinations for Polish tourists.
