Egypt Popular Current Holds Its 1st Conference; Eyes Saving National Economy

The Egyptian Popular Current is holding its first economic conference for two days;  April 7-8th seeking to offer alternative economic scenarios and reform programs in order to face the country’s economic crisis.

Entitled “Alternative Program Towards Saving Egypt’s Economy”, a wide number of economic experts will be attending the conference at the Leadership and Management Development Center in Agouza. Besides the inaugural session, six sessions will be organized.

Hamdeen Sabahy, Founder of the Egyptian Popular Current, will give a keynote speech during the inaugural session. The renowned Egyptian political analyst and writer Mohamed Hassanein Heikal will be making his appearance at the inaugural session.

After the inaugural session, which starts on Sunday at 10:00 a.m., is convened, the first key session will be held under the title of “Nature of Economic and Social System”. The economics professor Gouda Abdel Khalek will present his view on reforming subsidy system and ending poverty and Dr. Nadia Ramsis Farah will suggest methods for boosting economy and combating unemployment.

For the second session “The Social and Economic Justice: Strategies and Mechanisms”, Dr. Ibrahim El-Essawy – professor of economics at the Institute of National Planning at Cairo University – will be the moderator discussing the alternative economic policies.

Dr. Ahmed El Borei, a member of the National Salvation Front (NSF), will tackle a new vision for the insurance and pension systems.

Additionally, Dr. Mervat Tallawy – Head of the National Council for Women and Secretary-General of the Egyptian Social Democratic Party – will be presenting women’s issues in fields of education, work and political participation.

Dr. Ahmed Al-Sayed El-Nagar – prominent economic expert and coordinator of the Popular Current’s Economic Committee, will be talking about the policies and procedures on reforming the wages system and solving the high prices crisis.

On the second day, the Popular Current’s economic conference will continue its proceedings Monday April 8th starting with a session “The Natural Resources, Energy and Manufacturing”. The session will be attended by Dr. Abd El-Aal Hassan Attia for the mineral resources sector and Eng. Hossam El-Zayyat for the solar energy, Dr. Ibrahim El-Essery for the nuclear energy and Dr. Taha Abdel Aleem for the manufacturing strategies.

The media figure Dina Abdel Fattah, Editor-in-chief of  Amwal Al Ghad magazine; will be the moderator of the fifth session “The Financial & Economic Policies” discussing the financial and tax reforms.

Dr. Salwa Al-Antry – will tackle the monetary policies reform; while Dr, Kamal Naguib will present the education challenges and ways to reform.

For the final session “Smuggled Fund Return & Capital Market Reforms”, Judge Ashraf El-Baroudi will participate to discuss the ways to restore Egypt’s smuggled funds.

Dr. Hani Sarie Eldin – the former Chairman of the Egyptian Capital Market Authority (ECMA), will also attend to tackle the Egyptian Exchange’s challenges and capital market reforms.  Moreover,  Dr. Mohamed Hassan Khalil , Head of the National Right to Health Committee (NRHC), will talk about the country’s health sector and ways to reform and develop.

A large number of experts, specialists ,researches and economists will participate in the conference as well as a political parties, public figures ,a members of the media and intellectuals from different spectrum of the Egyptian national movement, in addition to the members of the Broad of Trustees and popular youth trends.

Hamdeen Sabahi, ex-presidential candidate and the Founder of the Egyptian Popular Current, said this conference comes in the time in which the popular trend has alternative visions concerning  the social and economic policies apart from the current ruling regime which aims to deepen the economic crisis, adding that the recommendations which will be released by the conference seek to offer effective alternatives to enable make Egypt to get through its economic crises through social justice policies.

Moreover, El Naggar has affirmed that this conference comes at a crucial time as Egypt passes with a crisis and the continuation of the same previous economic and social policies content which cause deepening and entrenching of the economic crisis and injustice, noting that an elite of the best experts and specialists in different sectors will participate in the conference to offer an alternative view.
