NBE Assigns Turkish Company To Supply Office Furniture, Violating PM’s Decision

Wood Working and Furniture Industries Chamber at the Federation of Egyptian Industries (FEI) has filed a complaint to the Prime Minister Hesham Kandil and Minister of Industry and Foreign Trade Hatem Saleh against the National Bank of Egypt (NBE) for assigning a Turkish company to supply office furniture worth EGP 20 million, said Mohamed El Shabrawy, vice chairman of the Chamber.

A number of Egyptian companies have submitted their bids in a tender to supply office furniture, but NBE chose the Turkish company, in violation to the Cabinet’s decision no. 736 concerning encouraging the purchase of local products, he added. Two of the biggest furniture companies in Egypt have submitted complaints to the Chamber and they were sent to the Prime Minister and the Industry Minister.

El Shabrawy demanded enacting a law to penalize the violators of the Prime Minister’s decision. He criticized the governmental bodies that refuse to purchase local products in tenders and prefer to purchase foreign products, even although there are high-quality local products, that are conformed to standard specifications.
