Egypt presents fourth voluntary UN SDG review at HLPF

Egypt presented its fourth Voluntary National Review (VNR) on progress towards the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the 2026 High-level Political Forum (HLPF) in New York, the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development said on Thursday.

Planning Minister Ahmed Rostom presented the report, prepared in cooperation with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), during the annual forum, which is held under the auspices of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).

The ministry said Egypt has now submitted voluntary national reviews in 2016, 2018, 2021 and 2026, making it one of a limited number of countries to have presented four reports since the adoption of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Rostom said the report reflected Egypt’s commitment to monitoring progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals despite global economic and geopolitical challenges.

He said the review was prepared through consultations involving government agencies, UN organisations, development partners, the parliament, the private sector, civil society, youth representatives, and academic institutions.

The report assesses Egypt’s progress across four pillars: human development, economic and social development, environment and climate, and governance and partnerships.

It also outlines priorities for accelerating implementation of the 2030 Agenda, including advancing structural economic reforms, increasing private-sector participation, investing in human capital, supporting the green transition and climate finance, promoting balanced regional development, strengthening governance, and expanding sustainable financing.

This year’s High-level Political Forum is being held under the theme “Transformative, equitable, innovative and coordinated actions for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its Sustainable Development Goals for a sustainable future for all.” Egypt is among 36 countries presenting voluntary national reviews during the forum.
