Egypt, Qatar agree on launching initiative to support Sudanese people

Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and Qatar’s Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Al Thani agreed on Friday to launch a joint initiative that includes humanitarian and relief services to aid and support Sudan as it continues to face an ongoing crisis.

The leaders discussed this decision over a phone call, while topics included how to strengthen and advance bilateral ties between the two nations in a number of areas, Ahmed Fahmy, the presidential spokesperson for Egypt, said.

However, they tackled the most recent regional and global developments, particularly those involving Sudan, and also highlighted the significance of cooperating to control the situation there, Fahmy added.

In April 2023, an armed conflict between rival factions of the military government of Sudan began when clashes broke out in cities, with the fighting concentrated around the capital city of Khartoum and the Darfur region.
