Germany’s wholesale prices up in March

Germany’s wholesale prices rose by 1.3 per cent in March 2025 compared with the same month last year, according to data released by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis).

The annual rate of change was slightly lower than February’s 1.6 per cent rise but higher than the 0.9 per cent increase recorded in January.

On a monthly basis, wholesale prices edged down 0.2 per cent from February 2025.

The year-on-year increase was mainly driven by higher prices in the wholesale of food, beverages and tobacco, which climbed 4.4 per cent.

Within this category, coffee, tea, cocoa and spices saw a sharp rise of 43.5 per cent, while sugar, confectionery and bakery products increased 16.3 per cent. Dairy products, eggs, fats and oils were also up 9.3 per cent.

Wholesale prices for non-ferrous metals and related products surged 27.3 per cent from a year earlier.

In contrast, the wholesale of computers and peripheral equipment recorded a 5.6 per cent decline, while iron and steel products dropped by 5.4 per cent. Prices also fell for live animals (3.2 per cent) and mineral oil products (3.0 per cent).
