Egypt refutes lack of basic commodities due to global food crisis

Egyptian government denied rumors on Sunday that the country is suffering shortages of food commodities due to the repercussions of the global food crisis, according to Presidency of the Council of Ministers post on Facebook.

On his side, the Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade stressed on the availability of commodities in all markets at the level of the Republic with a sustainable strategic reserve of basic commodities for at least 6 months.

The ministry noted to the work is underway to establish seven regional strategic warehouses for basic commodities, aiming to boost the food commodity stock to cover local consumption from eight to nine months, by increasing storage spaces.

Egypt has a strategic reserve of wheat sufficient for a period of seven months, by adding the shipments that purchased recently.
