Egypt reports first coronavirus death of a German citizen
A 60-year-old German citizen diagnosed with coronavirus died in Egypt, the Egyptian Health Ministry announced Sunday, marking the first death related to the virus in the North African country.
The German tourist showed symptoms of a high fever when he arrived from Luxor to Hurghada, Khaled Mugahid, an adviser to Egypt’s Minister of Health told Al Arabiya. The patient later went to Hurghada General Hospital on Friday to receive medical care.
Tests confirmed he had tested positive for the flu-like virus on Saturday and he was then placed in intensive care, Mugahid added.
Egyptian officials reported on Saturday the number of coronavirus infections on a cruise ship had been surged to 45 people, including foreign tourists, on the River Nile, after the vessel reached the southern city of Luxor.
