Egypt signs $18 mln JICA grant for Egypt-Japan Technology University

Egypt has signed Tuesday exchange of letters for a $18 million grant with the Japanese Agency for Development Cooperation.

The JICA grant is designated to assist in the purchase of educational and research equipment worth ¥2 billion ($18 million) for the Egypt-Japan University of Science and Technology (E-JUST), a governmental Egyptian university built in partnership with Japan.

Egyptian Minister of International Cooperation Sahar Nasr has signed the exchange of letters with Takehiro Kagawa, ambassador of Japan to Egypt; and the executive agreement with a representative in the JICA.

Ahmed El-Gohary, President of Egypt Japan University of Science and Technology, said the grant is substantial for the development of education in E-JUST.

E-JUST is a research-oriented university, established under the Presidential Decree 149 in May 2009 with the goal for serving Industrial Research requirements in both Egypt and Japan. The university offers 7 programs at the temporary location of City of Science and Technology Applications (CSAT) for postgraduates;
