Egypt to launch sugar trading on Mercantile Exchange after Eid al-Adha

Egypt will begin sugar trading on the Egyptian Mercantile Exchange (EMX) after the Eid al-Adha holiday as part of efforts to improve transparency and efficiency in the strategic commodities market, the Supply Ministry said on Wednesday.

The move is aimed at improving pricing mechanisms and distribution efficiency for sugar trading, according to a ministry statement.

The officials reviewed operational, financial, and technical preparations for the launch of sugar trading on the exchange and discussed procedures for executing transactions electronically.

The ministry said the proposed trading framework aims to strengthen transparency and oversight in sugar pricing and trading operations.

Training workshops will be held next week at EMX headquarters for sugar producers and market participants ahead of the launch, the statement said.

The ministry added that the exchange’s electronic trading system was ready to conduct sugar auctions and execute transactions nationwide.
