Egypt to sign deal with foreign firm to manufacture tablets locally soon – minister

Egypt is expected to sign an agreement within the first quarter of the year with one of the foreign firms to manufacture tablets domestically, its communications minister Amr Talaat said on Tuesday.

“The Egyptian government is negotiating with the foreign firm to agree on the percentage of the local component in the new tablets …,” Minister Talaat told Amwal Al Ghad, without disclosing the name of the foreign firm until talks are completed.

The anticipated agreement will see Egypt exporting part of its locally-manufactured tablets to several African countries, he said.

With investments worth around $30 million, Egypt is set to establish a factory to manufacture the tablets, the minister added.
