EgyptAir operates its 1st sustainable flight heading to COP27 in Sharm El Sheikh

EgyptAir uses the first Sustainable Aviation Fuel’s (SAF) flight which arrived on Saturday at Sharm El Sheikh International Airport coming from Paris with number of participants to attend the UN Climate Change Conference (COP27).

“A commercial flight of Boeing B787-9 Dreamliner is operating today with sustainable biofuels from Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris directly to Sharm El Sheikh Airport,” EgyptAir stated in its Facebook page.

This action came in accordance with the goals of the United Nations in sustainable development field, which are reducing carbon emissions causing climate change and deal with existing climate impacts, EgyptAir continued.

Ministry of Civil Aviation said, this move is part of its strategy for achieving sustainable development and reducing environmental pollution, which includes cutting carbon emissions.

This strategy aims to make the aviation sector eco-friendly, drawing on the government’s plans to increase reliance on renewable energy sources, Minister Mohamed Abbas added.

Egypt plans to boost its green investments to 50 percent of the total public investments by 2024/2025, up from 40 percent currently.

Noteworthy, that Egypt has been working on reducing its carbon emissions through many projects, including introducing eco-friendly mass transportation that runs on electricity, such as Light Rail Transit (LRT), Monorail, and Bus Rapid Transit (BRT).
