Egyptian minister calls for more funding to face climate change damages

Egyptian Minister of Environment, Yasmine Fouad, called for more funding to help face climate change damages during the 15th session of New York Climate Week.

The statements were made during a ministerial session on financing arrangements to deal with the losses and damages caused by climate change.

The session addressed the issue of loss and damage, referring to the impacts of climate change which can no longer be avoided.

They also discussed mobilising political participation in order to enhance the outcomes of the COP28 in November.

Fouad highlighted the necessity of preparing for COP28 by increasing funding for mitigation and adaptation projects.

Moreover, she stressed the need to activate the Loss and Damage Fund, which was approved during COP27.

The fund aims to support the countries that are most vulnerable to the effects of climate change.

Fouad also added that all ministers participating in the session agreed on the importance of activating this fund at COP28.
