Egyptian Sisi pardons 66 prisoners convicted in criminal cases

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi pardoned on Friday 66 prisoners who were convicted in criminal cases in a presidential decree that has been published in the official state gazette.

According to decree 343/2018, some of the prisoners will be pardoned after serving half of their sentence and the rest have received complete pardons.

The names of all the prisoners have been published in the official gazette.

Article 155 of the Egyptian constitution stipulates that the president has the power to issue a pardon or mitigate a final sentence after consulting with the Cabinet.

In June, Sisi pardoned 712 prisoners ahead of the Eid Al-Fitr holidays.
