Egypt’s 2025-2026 budget opts for social protection, healthcare, education

Egypt’s government unveiled on Tuesday its key budget priorities for the 2025-2026 fiscal year, with significant increases in funding for social protection programmes, healthcare, and education.
These increased allocations will support initiatives like the Takaful and Karama Programme and the second phase of the presidential Hayah Kareema (Decent Life) Initiative, both focused on improving the lives of millions of Egyptians.
Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly reviewed the draft budget during a high-level meeting at the New Administrative Capital, attended by Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of Finance Ahmed Kouchouk, and other senior officials.
The meeting underscored the government’s strategic focus on developing human capital and maintaining economic stability.
Cabinet spokesperson Mohamed El-Homsani noted that alongside increased social spending, the budget reinforces Egypt’s commitment to fiscal discipline. The government aims to boost the primary budget surplus and continue its efforts to sustainably reduce public debt, ensuring long-term economic stability.
The new budget reflects Egypt’s broader vision for inclusive growth, strengthening social safety nets while adhering to sound financial policies that support sustainable development.
