Egypt’s agricultural exports surpass 6.2m tons

Egypt’s agricultural exports have surpassed 6.2 million tons so far, reflecting the growing international reputation of Egyptian agricultural products, Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Alaa Farouk said on Sunday.

Citrus fruits topped Egypt’s agricultural exports with 2.3 million tons, followed by fresh potatoes at around 918,000 tons, sweet potatoes at more than 235,000 tons, grapes at around 180,000 tons, and fresh onions at 155,000 tons, according to an official report by the Central Administration of Plant Quarantine.

Beans, both fresh and dry, ranked sixth with around 136,000 tons. Other major exports included strawberries, garlic, tomatoes, mangoes, guavas and pomegranates.

Farouk said the figures reflect growing confidence in the quality and safety of Egyptian agricultural products, which have met the highest health requirements and international standards through strict oversight and the continuous development of inspection and traceability systems.

He said Egypt’s progress in agricultural exports has been supported by adherence to international quality standards and the implementation of coding and traceability systems.

He also highlighted efforts by the Central Administration of Plant Quarantine, in coordination with relevant ministry bodies and agricultural offices abroad, to open new markets for Egyptian products in Africa, Asia and the Americas, while providing technical support to farmers and exporters.
