Egypt’s Cabinet approves EGP 5.1 trillion budget focused on growth, social spending

Egypt’s Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly, approved a 5.1 trillion Egyptian pound state budget for the 2026/2027 fiscal year after it was presented to President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.

The budget includes 65 economic public authorities and aligns with the country’s economic and social development plan.

Finance Minister Ahmed Kouchouk said the new budget “prioritises citizens and investors while supporting economic activity,” with spending focused on health, education, social protection and programmes backing production and exports.

Total revenues are projected to rise 27.6 per cent to 4 trillion pounds, while expenditures are set to increase 13.2 per cent to 5.1 trillion pounds. Social protection spending will reach 832.3 billion pounds, up 12 per cent year-on-year, while 90 billion pounds is allocated to programmes supporting economic activity, with incentives linked to measurable results, the minister added.

Kouchouk said the government will continue balancing fiscal discipline with measures to support growth, strengthen investment and maintain social support.
