Egypt’s central bank chief joins 10th AFF at Dubai summit

Egypt’s central bank Governor Hassan Abdalla joined finance ministers, central bank chiefs, and international officials this week at the World Government Summit in Dubai to assess mounting economic pressures and the Arab world’s ability to weather future shocks.

According to a statement from the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE), Abdalla participated on Monday in the 10th Arab Fiscal Forum (AFF), an annual meeting organised by the United Arab Emirates’ Ministry of Finance in cooperation with the Arab Monetary Fund (AMF) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Senior officials attending the event included UAE’s Minister of State for Financial Affairs Mohamed bin Hadi Al Hussaini; IMF’s Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva; and AMF’s Director-General Fahad Bin Mohammed Alturki, alongside a broad cross-section of Arab finance ministers and central bank governors.

Discussions focused on the region’s economic outlook amid global uncertainty, trade and financial tensions, and persistent fiscal pressures. Participants reviewed a decade of fiscal dialogue among Arab states and debated priorities for the years ahead, including public finance reform, development financing, more efficient public spending and the expanding role of digital tools in fiscal management.

The CBE said Abdalla took part in the forum’s opening session, titled Fiscal Policy at a Time of Shocks and Uncertainty. It examined how Arab economies can strengthen resilience and maintain stability as they confront external shocks and shifting global conditions.
