Egypt’s Cotton Production 68% Up In FY 2010/11

The Central Agency for Public Mobility and Statistics (CAPMAS) issued a report that revealed a 68% increase in Egypt’s cotton production as it reached 635,000 tons in FY 2010/2011, compared to 378,000 tons in FY 2009/2010, thanks to the expansion of cotton plantations.

The country’s rice production surged by 31.2% as it reached 5.86 million tons in FY 2010/2011, compared to 4.33 million tons in FY 2009/2010.

According to CAPMAS annual report, Egypt’s wheat production rose to 8.37 million tons in FY 2010/2011, compared to 7.17 million tons in FY 2009/2010, registering an increase of 16.7%.

The sugarcane production reached 15.77 million tons, compared to 15.71 million tons, registering an increase of 0.4%. The orange production climbed 7.5% as it reached 2.58 million tons, compared to 2.40 million tons.

The banana production was up by 1.9% as it reached 1.05 million tons in FY 2010/2011, compared to 1.03 million tons in FY 2009/2010. The potato production increased by 19.6% as it reached 4.34 million tons, compared to 3.63 million tons. The tomato production dropped by 5.3% as it reached 8.11 million tons, compared to 8.56 million tons.

The total volume of planted areas fell as it reached 8.62 million feddans in FY 2010/2011, compared to 15.33 million feddans in FY 2009/2010.
