Egypt’s El Gouna Film Festival to be held without celebrations

El Gouna Film Festival (GFF) in Egypt will take place from December 14th to 21st, without traditional celebrations, reaffirming its solidarity with the Palestinian people, the administration of the festival announced on Sunday.

In an effort to bring attention to the brutal conditions in Gaza, the sixth edition will feature a special programme dedicated to Palestinian cinema produced in collaboration with the Palestine Film Institute, the statement added.

One of the festival’s programmes is a fundraising dinner that aims for humanitarian aid efforts in Gaza statement. The festival organisers are partnering with the Egyptian Red Crescent to ensure the effective coordination of these relief efforts.

Last month, GFF postponed due to the ongoing conflict in Gaza. A week later, another statement said “the GFF management aspires to the resumption of the 6th round when the situation stabilises in the Palestinian lands.”
