Egypt’s ENR deals with Orascom Construction, Thales to update railway line

Egyptian National Railway (ENR) signs a new contract of €300 million with Orascom Construction and Thales to modernise Beni Suef railway line, located on the east bank of the river Nile, according to a statement on Sunday.

The consortium will be responsible for modernizing the signalling and telecommunication systems. However, the scope of work includes design, supply, construction, testing, and commissioning.

“We aim to enhance passenger safety and reliability, while driving the advancement of transportation networks across the globe,” Yves Joannic, vice-president main line signalling business line, Thales.

The contract is part of the Railway Improvement and Safety Project for Egypt (RISE), which aims to improve the safety of passengers and employees of ENR by introducing railway safety and traffic control systems, the statement added.
