Egypt’s exports to Britain fall 30.1% in eight months

Egypt’s exports to Britain dropped 30.1 percent to record £481 million (US$742.6 million) during the months from January to August 2015, compared to £694 million in the same period in 2014.

Meanwhile, Egypt’s imports from Britain edged higher 0.4 percent in the first eight months of 2015 to register £682 million versus £679 million recorded in the same period in 2014, according to official statistics.

Britain’s exports to the Middle East and North African countries also surged 15.3 percent to total £13.559 billion during the first eight months of 2015, compared to £11.759 billion reported in the same period in 2014.

On the other hand, Britain’s imports from the MENA and North Africa region fell 17.6 percent to reach £8.615 billion during the first eight months of 2015, from £10.552 billion the year before.

Egypt ranked seventh on the list of countries in the Middle East and North Africa exporting to Britain. Egypt’s ranking places it behind Qatar with exports of £1.697 billion, Saudi Arabia of £1.437 billion, then Algeria with £1.399 billion, the UAE with £1.362 billion, Tel Aviv with £758 million, and Kuwait with £524 million.

Meanwhile, on the list of countries in the Middle East and North Africa importing from Britain, Egypt ranked fifth.  Egypt’s ranking places it behind the UAE with exports of £4.744 billion, Saudi Arabia of £3.604 billion, then Qatar with £1.492 billion and Tel Aviv with £714 million.
