Egypt’s FM Shoukry heading to Sudan for talks on Monday

Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry is heading today for Sudan’s capital Khartoum for talks with Sudanese officials as part of efforts to promote Egyptian-Sudanese relations after Sudan’s success in moving ahead with its transitional phase and the formation of a new government, the Egyptian foreign ministry said on Sunday.

According to a statement issued by foreign ministry spokesman Ahmed Hafez, Shoukry is due to hold important meetings with a number of Sudanese officials, including head of the Sovereign Council Abdel-Fattah Al-Borhan, Prime Minister Abdullah Hamdok, and Foreign Minister Asmaa Abdallah.

The visit is of special importance since it comes at the start of a new phase of cooperation between the two countries to face challenges and coordinate stances on regional and international issues of mutual concern following the changes in Sudan, the statement said.
