Egypt’s wheat imports climbed to 5.580 million tonnes during the financial year 2016/2017, compared with 4.440 million tonnes in during the financial year 2015/2016, spokesman of Supply Ministry Mamdouh Ramadan said Monday.
The country hopes to import 6.2 million tonnes of wheat within the financial year 2017/2018, the official further added.
He referred that the region’s most populous country is also the largest wheat importer in the world and consumes around 15 million tonnes of wheat yearly.
