Egypt’s GALDP signs MoU for Burj Al-Arab Dry Port project

Egypt’s General Authority for Land and Dry Ports (GALDP) signed on Thursday a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Ocean Express Shipping to develop and operate the Burj Al-Arab Dry Port.

A statement from the Egyptian Ministry of Transport said that Minister Kamel Al-Wazir was present during the signing.

The project is set to span an area of 120 acres on the highway linking Burj Al-Arab City and the agricultural region of Banjar al-Sukkar.

The statement also said that the Dry Port will be connected by railway and roads to the ports of Alexandria, Dekheila, and Abu Qir Al Bahri.

The first phase of the Dry Port project will cover 40 percent of the site which holds a railway freight terminal, yards for container handling, storage and inspection, customs building, facilities for empty container services, and offices of government agencies.

According to the minister, the estimated cost of work for the project is 780 million Egyptian pounds ($25 million), with the first phase to be implemented in 12 months.

The Dry Port will handle 2.5 million tons per year of dry bulk goods and general goods during the first phase.
