Egypt’s Gharbia secondary school to be re-named after footballer Mohamed Salah

Governor of Gharbia, General Ahmed Daif Saqr, announced that the alma mater of Egyptian football player Muhammad Salah, Basyoun Industrial Secondary School, will be re-named after the athlete as a tribute.

In addition to Industrial, General Sakr informed the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education in Gharbia, Ayed al-Shenawy, that two more schools in Basyoun and Mahalla cities would be re-named immediately after Egypt qualified for the 2018 FIFA World Cub in Russia.

Thousands of people all over Gharbia celebrated the win against the Congolese football team 2-1, on Sunday, qualifying Egypt for the World Cup.

President Sisi received the players and the coaching team this morning in the Ittihadeya Presidential Palace and rewarded each player of the national football team LE1.5 million.

The seven-time continental champions and 2016 CAF Africa Cup of Nations runner-ups have only made it to the World Cup finals twice, both games hosted by Italy, the first time being in 1934 and the second in 1990.
