Egypt’s Giza pyramids will be illuminated on Saturday night with the colours of the flags of both France and Russia in solidarity with the victims of the Friday Paris attacks and also those who lost their lives in the crash of a Russian passenger airliner over Sinai two weeks ago.
The pyramids will light up at 9:30 Cairo Local Time (CLT) and will alternate between the flags of Egypt and France and the flags of Egypt and Russia, state news agency MENA reported.
The flags of France (blue, white and red), Russia (white, blue and red) and Egypt (red, white and black) will also be raised around the pyramids.
On Saturday, several buildings around the world were lit up with the tri-colours of the French flag including San Francisco’s Blue Hall, Sydney’s Opera House and Mexico City’s senate building.
A series of deadly attacks against venue packed with people rocked the French capital on Friday, killing at least 128 people. ISIS has claimed responsibility for the attacks.
Meanwhile, on 31 October, a Russian Airbus A-321 crashed over Egypt’s Sinai, en route from Sharm to St. Petersburg in Russia, killing all 224 people onboard. The cause of the crash has not been determined yet.
