Glass exports rise 11% in two months- Egypt’s Chemical Council

Egyptian exports of glass products rose by 11 percent in January-February 2016 to hit 171.4 million Egyptian pounds (US$19.2 million) from 153.9 million pounds a year earlier.

According to the latest report released by Chemical Export Council (CEC) Monday, ten firms have seized 71 percent of total Egyptian exports of glass products by the end of February 2016.

It showed that Misr Glass Manufacturing Company-MGM led the list of largest exporters of glass products with exports worth 39.6 million pounds, capturing 32 percent of total exports during January-February 2016.

Asfour Cyrstal International, world’s largest producer of full-lead crystals, was the second largest exporter of glass products with exports estimated at 22.1 million pounds getting 18 percent of total exports, the report stated.

New City Glass Group was ranked the third since its exports recorded 10.7 million pounds during the first two months of 2016.

The report stated that ten states captured 65.5 percent of Egypt’s total glass exports by the end of February 2016 with exports totaling 112.3 million pounds; Sudan seized 26 percent of total exports, i.e. 29.3 million pounds, followed by Lebanon whose exports estimated at 21.1 million, getting 19 percent of total exports.

Egyptian exports of glass products to Morocco reached 13.1 million pounds, while its exports to Algeria hit 9.9 million pounds then Turkey whose exports estimated at 8.5 million pounds.
