Egypt’s imports from 5 states hit $11bn in six months- CAPMAS

Egypt’s total imports from five states increased by 24.5% to hit 90 billion Egyptian pounds (US$11.5 billion) from January-June 2015 versus 72 billion pounds at the same period of 2014.

According to a report issued by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) stating the data about foreign trade, the five states are: China, USA, Germany, Turkey and UAE.

The report stated that Egypt’s imports from China during the first six months of 2015 reached 34 billion pounds compared to 22 billion pounds at the same period of 2014.

Meanwhile, Egypt’s imports from Germany have recorded 20 billion pounds during the first half of 2015 opposed to 18 billion pounds during the same period of 2014.

Egypt’s imports from Turkey have been increased from 7 billion pounds at the first six months of 2014 to 11 billion pounds at the same period of 2015.

The report added that the Emirati exports to Egypt have been jumped 23.9% to reach 6.7 billion pounds during the first half of 2015 versus 5.4 billion pounds at the same period of 2014.

On the contrary, the American exports to Egypt have dropped by 5.1% from 18 billion pounds in January-June 2014 to 17 billion pounds at the same period of 2015, the report clarified.
