Egypt’s Imports From Thailand Hit $650 mln In 2012

Ali El Korey, Chairman of the Egyptian-Thai Business Council, has revealed that the value of the Egyptian exports to Thailand in 2012 fell to $ 40 million in return for $ 50 million in 2011. He clarified that the volume of the trade exchange between the two countries comes in favor for Thailand, whereas the volume of its exports to the Egyptian market estimated with $ 650 million.

In his statements to “Amwal Al Ghad”, El Korey said some Thai businessmen have withdrawn their activities in Egypt since the revolution, while others frozen their activities. The political instability in Egypt since two years is the mean reason for suspending their investments in Egypt. El Korey has called for working on clear mechanisms to restore security and reach consensus in the Egyptian street, besides attracting numerous investments.

The volume of Thai investments in the Egyptian market is tenuous, El Korey said; adding that the offices in the embassies abroad have an important role in discussing the ways of cooperation and attracting numerous investments to the Egyptian market.
