Egypt’s Imports Of Meat Reached EGP6.3 bln In 2012

Egypt’s imports of meat recorded EGP 6.3 billion in 2012, up by EGP 1 billion, while the imports of meat in 2011 reached EGP 5.3 billion.

Sources in Foreign Trade sector told “Amwal Al Ghad” that the imports of meat mainly came from the Brazilian market with more than EGP 1.5 billion, but this rate may decrease due to the Mad Cow disease for the interest of the Ethiopian and Sudanese markets.

For his part, Alaa Al Sakty, Board Chairman of Badr Industrial City Investors Association, stated that the bill of the imported meat may increase in 2013, on account of the increasing demand on meat and the relative decline in the GDP, in a way that widen the promotional gap between supply and demand.
