Egypt’s Mining Forum will kick off tomorrow in the New Capital under the patronage and in the presence of President Abdel Fattah Sisi, with its fifth edition set to announce the results of the first open-block mineral exploration bid. Organised by the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources on September 28 and 29, the forum will be the largest edition since its launch.
Petroleum and Mineral Resources Minister Karim Badawi said the forum reflects growing investor interest in Egypt’s mining opportunities and provides an international platform to showcase the country’s mining potential and that of the Arabian-Nubian Shield.
Badawi said recent reforms and measures aim to create a more attractive investment climate for mineral exploration and exploitation, while encouraging downstream industries that maximise the added value of mining resources and support employment and exports.
The forum’s second day will feature a roundtable chaired by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly with major mining investors and companies to discuss investment opportunities, strengthen partnerships, and support coordination among relevant entities.
The forum will also announce the results of the investment opportunities offered by the Mineral Resources and Mining Industries Authority in June under the open-block system for gold, phosphate, talc, and kaolin exploration.
Ahead of the forum, Badawi will hold a high-level roundtable meeting of the African Minerals Strategy Group (AMSG), with the participation of several African mining ministers, officials, companies, and investors to discuss strengthening cooperation and partnerships and creating an attractive investment climate.
The discussions will cover mining activities from studies, research, and exploration through production and mineral resource exploitation to the establishment of industries that maximise their added value.
