Egypt’s minister of housing reviews infrastructure progress in New Capital

Egypt’s Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, Sherif El-Sherbiny on Saturday visited the New Administrative Capital (NAC) to review key water, sanitation, irrigation, and utility projects.

During his visit, Minister El-Sherbiny focused on the first phase of the water infrastructure, which includes a Nile intake, water lifting stations, a reservoir with a capacity of 1.5 million m³/day, and 48 km of transmission pipelines. The water purification plant, currently operational at 400,000 m³/day, is designed to eventually reach a capacity of 1.5 million m³/day.

Sanitation projects were also a major point of discussion, with updates on the permanent sewage treatment plant, designed for a capacity of 250,000 m³/day, and the main sewage pipelines, which range from 2,250 mm to 3,400 mm in diameter. The minister also reviewed temporary solutions, including lift stations.

Minister El-Sherbiny further assessed the permanent and temporary irrigation systems supporting the capital’s green spaces and took stock of infrastructure and road projects located east and west of the regional ring road.

Additionally, the minister inspected service projects in the R3 residential district and provided updates on the Central Parks project, also known as the Green River. Stretching over 10 km, this park will be the largest in the Middle East and the second largest globally, offering world-class recreational spaces connected by pedestrian and cycling pathways.
