Egypt’s Ministry Seeks to Exit TE from Vodafone Before June 2015

The Egyptian Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Ministry issued decree for forming committee regarding reviewing the best scenarios to exit Telecom Egypt (ETAL-CA) (TE) from Vodafone Egypt and to abandon around 45% from the latest shares which will be finalized by June 2015.

 Senior sources said the committee will include several numbers of experts in ICT sector in addition the representatives of NTRA and the Ministry, noting that it may reach to scenario for exiting from the regulatory measures of integrated operator licence by next June.

 Amwal Al Ghad has known that the mobile operators which have operating services in Egypt are called the Egyptian government to exit TE from Vodafone Egypt.

 The Ministry identified three phases for starting the integrated licence the first stage represents TE will obtain the fixed licence without frequencies with EGP2.5 billion and mobile operators will get fixed default with EGP100 million for one operator.

 The second stage includes giving the opportunity for the 4 operators to obtain new frequencies spaces through a tender, along with granting the mobile operators the right to access the International gateway with EGP1.8 billion to Vodafone and EGP1.5 to Mobinil , so that the country will obtain EGP8 for each subscriber in Etisalat Egypt.

The third stage is the equality of all operators in the services provided to the users.
