Egypt’s Oriental Weavers signs deal to power one of its plants with clean energy

Egypt’s Oriental Weavers Company signed on Wednesday an agreement with Amarenco Solaris, a leading company in solar energy solutions, to operate one of its factories in the 10th of Ramadan using solar energy.

The project is a major step in Oriental Weavers’ sustainability journey, which aligns with Egypt’s Vision 2030 and the company’s commitment to reduce carbon emissions.

The solar power plant, with a capacity of 1.3 MW, will provide 80 percent of the energy needs of one of its factories, reducing carbon emissions by more than 2,300 tons annually.

“We are committed to managing our business in a sustainable manner and reducing our environmental impact,” said Yasmine Khamis, President of Oriental Weavers Carpet Group.

Khamis added that the project is a major step for the company’s journey towards sustainability, and the bedrock of its plan to rely on clean energy, especially after the successful transition of the largest showrooms in Alexandria to solar energy in 2022.

Sustainability is an integral part of Oriental Weavers’ business model. The company has already made significant progress in reducing its carbon footprint and using clean energy, recording a 30 percent reduction in total carbon emissions over the past three years.

This latest initiative reinforces Oriental Weavers’ commitment to environmental responsibility, as well as its leadership in the carpet industry.
