Egypt’s PM meets UN chief in New York

Egypt’s Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly met on Tuesday with UN Secretary-General António Guterres in New York to discuss bilateral cooperation and key regional and international developments on the sidelines of the 81st UN General Assembly.

Madbouly conveyed President Abdel Fattah Sisi’s greetings to Guterres and praised his leadership of the UN, particularly his position on the Gaza war and Israeli violations of international resolutions.

He reaffirmed Egypt’s support for the UN80 reform initiative, stressing the importance of member states’ role in negotiations, addressing developing countries’ concerns, and reforming global financial institutions.

On Palestine, Madbouly reiterated Egypt’s support for a just and sustainable settlement and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state along the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital. He also highlighted Egypt’s efforts to build Palestinian consensus and ensure the safe and unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza.

Guterres praised Sisi and Egypt’s leading role in supporting multilateral action and regional stability. The two sides also discussed developments in Lebanon, Sudan, Yemen, and Palestine and stressed the need for continued coordination, diplomatic solutions, and de-escalation.
