Egypt’s President Affirms Support To UN-AL Envoy Over Syrian Crisis

Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi asserted Egypt’s support to all efforts of Lakhdar Brahimi, joint special envoy of the United Nations (UN) and the Arab League(AL) for Syria, to stop bloodshed and political crisis there, official news agency MENA reported Monday.

“Morsi supports efforts of Lakhdar Brahimi to mediate in tackling the crisis in Syria,” MENA quoted Egyptian Foreign Minister Mohamed Kamel Amr as saying, following Morsi’s meeting with Brahimi.

Brahimi reportedly reviewed sufferings of the Syrian citizens, noting that Morsi underlined the necessity to regain security and stability and achieve the aspirations of the Syrians.

Brahimi, who will visit Damascus in few days, said “Syria is in danger,” warning that its neighboring countries, even those far from Syria, will be influenced if the crisis wouldn’t be solved soon.

Meanwhile, the presidency spokesman, Yasser Ali, said Morsi’s meeting with Brahimi was very important, noting that Egyptian president backs initiatives of Brahimi and coordination with the quartet of contact group for resolving Syrian crisis is going.
