Egypt’s reserve money M0 rises to EGP 2.35t in February: CBE

Egypt’s reserve money (M0) climbed to 2.352 trillion Egyptian pounds at the end of February 2025, up from 2.193 trillion pounds in January 2025, according to the latest data from the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE).

M0, a key monetary policy indicator, includes currency in circulation outside the CBE vaults and banks’ local currency deposits. The surge in reserve money suggests ongoing measures by the CBE to regulate liquidity in the economy.

The breakdown of M0 data reveals that currency in circulation outside CBE vaults reached 1.297 trillion pounds in February, up from 1.247 trillion pounds in January. Additionally, banks’ deposits in Egyptian pounds saw a notable rise, reaching 1.055 trillion pounds in February, compared to 946.358 billion pounds the previous month.
