Egypt’s Sokhna Trans Cargo terminal handles first vessels after commercial launch

Egypt’s Trans Cargo general cargo terminal at Sokhna Port received its first commercial vessels on Sunday after launching commercial operations, the Transport Ministry said.

The first vessel, CHIPOLBROK SUN, delivered a 150-ton crane and other cargo-handling equipment, completing the installation of the terminal’s operational infrastructure, the ministry said.

The bulk carrier CENTURY EAGLE also docked at the terminal after arriving from China. The vessel is 190 metres long, 32.29 metres wide and has a deadweight of about 52,483 tons.

A third vessel, TRANSMAR LEGACY, later arrived from Jeddah Islamic Port in Saudi Arabia to handle general cargo. The ship is 204.39 metres long.

The ministry said the regular arrival of vessels since commercial operations began reflected the terminal’s operational readiness. It said the facility would increase Sokhna Port’s cargo-handling capacity, reduce vessel waiting times, improve marine and logistics services, and support Egypt’s foreign and transit trade.
